Sugar Glider Make endangered Swift Parrot


The biggest threat for the endangered Swift Parakeet? The Sweet MarsupialThe endangered Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) has to face attacks of the Sugar Glider. The australian team of researchers found out that this mammal destroys the most of all nests. „And that predation was so severe that, on average across mainland Tasmania, only 17 per cent of swift parrot nests were actually successful and all of those failures were as a result of sugar gliders eating the swift parrot, either the females or their eggs or both,” explained Dejan Stojanovic for ABC News. Dejan leads the team and is involved in the research of this issue more than three years.

Well, you can. But it’s illegal. Over a six-month investigation from June to December this year, wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) found 156 listings of exotic animals on six online sites – Gumtree Singapore, Locanto Classifieds Singapore, ST701, Carousell, Adpost.com Classifieds Singapore and ChaosAds Singapore. Animals featured on these listings ranged from ball pythons to tarantulas.

Sugar glider sering dipersamakan dengan tupai terbang

BELAKANGAN ini, tupai terbang dan sugar glider banyak diperdagangkan sebagai hewan peliharaan. Bagi penghobi pemula, kedua mamalia ini seringkali dianggap sama. Meskipun penampilan fisiknya memiliki kemiripan yakni mata besar, bagian perut berwarna putih dan membran di sisi tubuh yang dapat digunakan untuk melayang, kedua satwa ini sejatinya berasal dari dua subkelas berbeda. Mereka hanya berkerabat jauh bukan satu keluarga.

Spotted doves, sugar gliders found hidden in car at Tuas Checkpoint



SINGAPORE: Two Singaporean men are under investigation for the illegal import of animals after live spotted doves and sugar gliders were found hidden in their car, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) on Thursday (Aug 27).

Sailfest won’t allow sugar glider vendors back next year


New London — The application for Sailfest vendors will be amended to prohibit the sales of live animals and prevent the return of the company that sold sugar gliders at this year's festival july 11 12.

Barbara Neff, founder of Neff Productions and lead organizer of the annual street fair, said Tuesday that the committee that oversees Sailfest will have its first meeting since the event next Tuesday.
At that meeting, she said, she will explain her decision to add language to the vendor application prohibiting live animals.
